Questions about home elevators and lifts
If your question isn't here, call us or ask for a quote.
Fit and feasibility
Will an elevator or lift fit my home?
Most homes can take one of the elevators or lifts we install. Some need a shaft; some install with minimal construction; and some retrofit into the space you already have. We look at your home and tell you what fits — and if none of it fits, we tell you that too.
Do I need to build a shaft?
It depends on the equipment. A vacuum elevator stands on its own, and a through-floor elevator rises through an opening between two floors; neither needs a separate shaft. A traditional home elevator does. Ramps, stairlifts and platform lifts need no shaft at all. We'll tell you what your choice needs before you commit.
Will it work in an older home?
Often, yes. Older homes usually take a stairlift, a ramp, or a vacuum or through-floor elevator with little structural change. We measure your home first, so the quote reflects what your house needs.
Cost and paying
What does a home elevator or lift cost?
Price depends on the equipment and your home. Every product has an installed price range you can see before you call. Your written quote gives the full price for your job. For how pricing works and what options change the price, see our cost guide.
How do people pay for this? Is financing available?
If you'd rather spread the cost out than pay it all at once, financing is available through Mobility Trust. The lender sets the terms and decides who qualifies. We can also help you find funding programs you may qualify for; each program decides what it covers. What you'll owe us is in your written quote, before you commit. See Paying for your project for the full picture.
Permits, code and safety
Do I need a permit or an inspection?
Most installations need a permit and a final inspection. What's required depends on your parish or county and the equipment you choose. We'll walk you through what your job needs before work starts.
Are home elevators and lifts built to a code?
Yes. The equipment we install is built to recognized industry standards and carries the code references a builder or inspector would check. We install to those standards and to your local requirements.
What happens in a power outage?
The equipment we install has safety features built in, and most include a way to reach a floor if the power goes out — battery lowering or a backup system, depending on the equipment. We show you exactly how yours works before we leave.
Timing
How long does installation take?
It depends on the equipment. A ramp or a stairlift is typically a short install. A platform or wheelchair lift has a longer lead time. A full home elevator is the longest, especially if it needs a shaft. Typical lead and install times for each product are on the What we install page, and your written quote gives the timeline from order to completion for your job.
How soon can you start?
That depends on the equipment and its lead time. Your quote gives the timeline in writing, and the date in it is one we can hold. If you're in an urgent situation, we'll tell you plainly which options can serve your timeline and which can't — start with when something happened.
After the install
Do you service what you install, and what does the warranty cover?
Yes — we service what we install, so the company that did the work is the one you call. Your warranty is one year of repair labor, plus the manufacturer's parts warranty, which varies by manufacturer. You see exactly what's covered, and for how long, in writing before you commit.
Is maintenance required?
Elevators and lifts run best with periodic service, the same as any piece of equipment in your home. We recommend a service visit every six months. We'll tell you what your equipment needs to keep running well, and we're the ones who handle it.
What we don't install
Do you sell used or rental equipment?
No. Everything we install is new equipment that we sell and stand behind — nothing used or refurbished, and no rentals. That's what lets us put a real warranty in writing and service what we install.
Do you install equipment I bought somewhere else?
No. We install the equipment we sell, so we can stand behind the whole job — the equipment and the work.
Do you carry a chair that lifts someone to standing from a seat?
No — that's a different kind of product from the ones we install. If the trouble is the stairs, what we install for that is a stairlift — a seat that carries you up and down the staircase on a rail. Tell us what you're trying to solve and we'll point you to the option that fits, or tell you plainly if it's not something we do.
