Houses on pilings, houses on hillsides

On the Gulf Coast — Mobile and Baldwin County — homes near the water are built up on pilings against storm surge, so a run of exterior steps stands between the ground and the living floor. A wheelchair ramp or a platform lift gets past that climb, and in the taller beach houses a home elevator carries people and groceries up through the floors. Around Birmingham, houses are built into the ridges — split levels and daylight basements, with stairs between the garage, the main floor and the bedrooms. A home elevator ties the levels together, a stairlift rides a single run, and a platform lift moves a wheelchair between two levels. Across the rest of the state, the two-story house is the common one, and a stairlift or a home elevator keeps the upstairs in reach.

Will an elevator or lift fit my Alabama home?

Most homes can take one of the elevators or lifts we install — a hillside home with a daylight basement, a raised coastal house, or a standard two-story all have an answer. We look at your house and put what fits in your quote.

Do you do commercial work in Alabama?
