Two-story homes, and homes raised after the water
A lot of the newer houses around Baton Rouge are two-story — in Prairieville, Gonzales, Denham Springs, Central and Zachary, with the bedrooms, the laundry and sometimes the main living space all upstairs. A stairlift rides the stair you have; a home elevator reaches the floor when a wheelchair comes along or the stair won't take a lift. Along the Amite and Comite, many homes were raised after the 2016 flood, which puts a run of exterior steps between the driveway and the door; a wheelchair ramp built to the right slope, or a platform lift where a ramp won't fit, gets past them. The older homes closer in — Spanish Town, Beauregard Town, the Garden District — carry their own steep stairs and raised porches, and the same equipment fits them.

Common questions — Baton Rouge
- Will an elevator fit a newer two-story home?
Usually. Some need a small shaft; the vacuum and through-floor elevators install with minimal construction and fit where a shaft won't. We look at your floor plan and put what fits in your quote.
- Our house was raised after the flood — can you get past the steps?
Yes. A wheelchair ramp sized to the height, or a platform lift where a ramp won't fit, handles a raised entry.
